Imagen
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog!! This would actually be the penultimate entry just before the expositions one, so we are almost there. For this entry I'm going to cover the various receptives skills there are and how to approach students when teaching them. First we need to now that receptive skills refer to the ability to understand and comprehend spoken or written language. These skills include listening and reading comprehension. Teaching receptive skills is important for learners to be able to effectively communicate and interact with others. To teach receptive skills, it is important to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. This can be achieved by using a variety of teaching strategies such as authentic materials, interactive activities, and differentiated instruction. Teaching Listening Comprehension Listening comprehension is an essential skill for effective communication. To teach listening comprehension, it is important to use authentic mater...

Teaching Speaking

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!! For this entry we are going to cover something quite similar, which is speaking. When it comes to speaking there are 3 dimensions: 1.       Transactional or Interpersonal 2.      Interactive or Non-interactive 3.      Planned or Unplanned In a classroom we always have to take into account the environment that surrounds the student, as this will probably the primary factor that will affect the development of his speaking. Here are some conversational strategies that could help students develop their speaking. As I was not able to attend this class, I was not able to get pictures, but my classmate Josh told me about the different excercises they had with Tonge Twistlers and also with a new technique called Jazz Chants, I have never heard about, but it consists in mostly  about following a certain rhythm, the rhythm of Jazz, and explaining that the English language follow...

Teaching writing

Hello everyone welcome back to my blog!! For today's entry I'm going to cover of teaching grammar of the last classes.  In the first class where we covered the writing, firstly we started doing some cursive excercises on our notebook to which I struggled a lot, we did something similar to the Palmer handwrtiting method.  From a really young age my handwriting has not been the best, lets not say my cursive handwriting, that probably has been worse and has just gotten as worse. As in today's classes we barely write stuff I do not get to practice my handwritting at all, and when I do write something I never do it in cursive, I always try to avoid writing in cursive. After practicing a bit with this method, we proceeded to get into groups in which we discussed why it was important to practice our handwriting and why is it important for students to learn how to write. Later on, we saw the basics of the writing process, furthermore we had to write a small composition of the ...

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog!!! To be honest in the last two weeks I've been feeling quite unmotivated to do anything in general everything has been feeling really boring and plain out of sudden, but still we have to keep going as this register is almost over.  I was not actually able to attend the first blog of this entry in which Nidia gave an speech in how to use our voice as my classmates told me. After that, they also told that they had to walk on the classroom and act like models lmao.  Now when it comes to theoric part, to acheve a task succesfully we must take into consideration the following excercises:  a. Keeping focus   ·         Keeping eye contact with the person in front of you while being serious ·         Keeping eye contact with one person as you walk around the classroom   b. Expressing emotions with your face and body   ·      ...

Prompter When students forget something, such as the instructions of a task, the teacher is there to remind them. C. Participant Taking an active role; for example, in a class discussion. D. Resource When students ask the teacher’s help. For example, when they don’t know how the meaning of a word. E. Tutor When giving feedback about a large project. 2. Rapport  In essence, rapport means “the relationship ...

Describing learners

Imagen
Welcome back to my final blog of this semester (better late than never XD) For this final entry I would share with you the different ways in which we can differentiate and describe the type of learners there are Ages Young children Those children up to the ages of 9 or 10 learn differently from older children, adolescents, and adults in the following ways: - They respond to meaning even if they do not understand individual words. - They often learn indirectly rather than directly. - Their understanding comes from what they see, hear, and – crucially – from what they have the chance to touch and interact with Adolescents:  They tend to be disruptive learners, yet when they find the purpose of the activity, they are often successful at it and are engaged and passionate when they like what they are being taught. And when they feel comfortable, they are willing to talk about their experiences.  - They are usually regarded as problematic students; however, when they f...

Learning Styles

Hello everyone welcome back to my blog!! This is my penultimate entry were I would cover the different learning styles there are out there and also the VARK.  First we need to understand that the  VARK (Visual, Aural, Read and Write/ Kinesthetic)  model was proposed in 1992 by Neil Fleming and Colleen Mills.  For this class specifically we had to use the VARK to explain a topic of our preference, and we selected the topic of Naturilistic Intelligence to apply the VARK.  Here is a picture of our group presentation :D Now moving on into every type of learner that is in the VARK: Visual: Visual learners understand and retain information best by seeing. They would prefer to see information presented in a visually appealing way, rather than in a written format. Auditory: Auditory learners tend to learn information best by hearing it. Rather than getting actively involved in a class or writing out notes, they prefer to listen to others present the information an...
