New Register Collaborative Approach

Hello everyone in this occasion we begin the second register with a new topic which is the "Collaborative Approach".

In the last two classes we started talking about the collaborative approach. We said that approach means a focus or an idea to develop a topic.

This approach is divided into 3 areas:

  • Comunity Language Learning, which reinforces the idea of "I need my tribe to back me up", nothing is prepared but flows, and its purpose is to create connections and boost confidence in a good environment.

  • Task-based learning: the group evolves into a team and small steps lead to big objectives, in this step we consolidate our previous connections in a team.

  • Content-based learning: In this final step the team is promoted and students are able to complete any task based on content.

And now you may ask which activities could work as collaborative activities?

Collaborative activities are any activities where learners are working co-operatively in pairs or groups. For example:

        Pair or group discussions

Completing shared tasks in a pair or group, e.g. matching, sorting, ranking

Activities or games with a competitive element, e.g. bingo

        Drama and role play

Information exchange activities, including barrier games and jigsaw activities

Working collaboratively on a task encourages use of the vocabulary of the curriculum area, and at the same time encourages use of the language of making suggestions, justifying opinions, agreeing and disagreeing, etc.

For one of the classes we actually did some of this activities, we created our own country which was called Orlando and we used rods to represent a different Minister from the country in my case I was the Health Minister and proposed a health service called "OrlandoCare".

Finally for the second class we played a game in which two persons were entangled with some wool and who ever got untagled first would win. I got entangled with Josh but we failed horrendously...
