Multiple Intelligences

Imagen
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog, For this entry I'm going to talk about the different and multiple intelligences there are out there. Verbal-linguistic intelligence:  Being capable of learning new languages and understanding how to use language to achieve goals. An example of this would be analyzing facts and preparing a speech to deliver in front of a group. Logical-mathematical intelligence:  Being able to analyze problems logically and solve abstract problems. An example of this would be using mathematical concepts to solve a real-life mortgage scenario. Spatial-visual intelligence:  Being able to use visual aids to arrive at a solution. An example of this would be using a tool like Photoshop to design a new logo for a fictional client. Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence:  Being capable of using the entire body and engaging in movement to skillfully address a challenge. An example would be performing CPR on a mannequin. Musical intelligence:  Being...

New Register Collaborative Approach

Imagen
Hello everyone in this occasion we begin the second register with a new topic which is the "Collaborative Approach". In the last two classes we started talking about the collaborative approach. We said that approach means a focus or an idea to develop a topic.  This approach is divided into 3 areas: Comunity Language Learning , which reinforces the idea of "I need my tribe to back me up", nothing is prepared but flows, and its purpose is to create connections and boost confidence in a good environment. Task-based learning:  the group evolves into a team and small steps lead to big objectives, in this step we consolidate our previous connections in a team. Content-based learning:  In this final step the team is promoted and students are able to complete any task based on content. And now you may ask which activities could work as collaborative activities?   Collaborative activities are any activities where learners are working co-operatively in pairs or groups. F...

Register's Recap

Imagen
First Register's Recap 02/28/2023 In today's class we had a recap of each of the methods we learned through the whole register, which were presented by different groups.  In my case our group had to present about the  Communitive Language Learning method. Here is a picture of the chart we made: And here is a picture of me and Mauricio explaining the method: After every group presented and explained their respective method, we had a small quiz.

Community Language Learning

Imagen
23/02/2023 Unfortunately I was not able to attend this class, but on the upcoming week I talked about this method so I became really familiar with it.  The Community Language Learning by  Charles Curran. This method actually implies in working as a community in a way that the students work in a free space where they talk about themselves and can always consult or ask for advisory and counseling, as this was made by psycologist.  Some of the characteristics are: I need my peers to learn with and from them.  Non-threatening environment to express myself better. It's beter to use it with advanced or praticient learners  Focused on speaking Nothing is prepared. Everything flows naturally. (Analysis latter)  My community backs me up.

21/02/2023 Georgi Lozanov - Creator of suggestopedia.  <<Mind can create connections when you're relaxed>> This is a method of teaching a foreign language in which students learn quickly while feeling relaxed, interested and positive. Origin of Suggestopedia: 1970s Yoga Psychology Examples of suggestopedia:  The influence of the teacher. The creativity.   The method the Her /His use to teach they students, This can be, music, write a journey, play some games in the class you. For this class we wrote some of our memories and the stuff that we did while we were on vacations while listening to this song:

Total Physical Response (TPR)

Imagen
16/02/2023 TPR method by  James Asher.   Origin of the method When we speak of total physical response, we refer to a method of teaching language through physical activity. Based on the teachings of its creator, James Asher, the more often a memory connection is traced, the stronger the memory association and the more likely it will be remembered. Principles Meaning in the target language can often be conveyed through actions. The students’ understanding of the target language should be developed before speaking.  Students can initially learn one part of the language rapidly by moving their bodies. The imperative is a powerful linguistic device through which the teacher can direct student behavior.  It is very important that students feel successful. Correction should be carried out in an unobtrusive manner. Students must develop flexibility in understanding. Students will begin to speak when they are ready.  Students are expected to make errors when they ...

Grammar Translation Method (GMT)

Imagen
01-2023 The grammar translation method is a method of teaching foreign languages derived from the classical method of teaching Greek and Latin. In grammar-translation classes, students learn grammatical rules and then apply those rules by translating sentences between the target language and the native language. Advanced students may be required to translate whole texts word-for-word. The method has two main goals: to enable students to read and translate literature written in the target language, and to further students’ general intellectual development. Its characteristics: - Classes are taught in the mother tongue - Much vocabulary is taught in the form of lists of isolated words. - Little or no attention is given to pronunciation. - Reading of difficult texts is begun early. - Long, elaborate explanations of the intricacies of grammar are given . For this class we actually had an excercise in which we had to translate this little poem:

Silent Way

Imagen
09/02/2023 First we made a comparison and reviewed some of the details from the Audio Lingual method and the Direct Method, later on we began with the class of the Silent Way. The Silent Way was founded in the early 1970s by the Egyptian mathematician and educator Caleb Gattegno. It is based on the idea that language learning can be enhanced in three main ways: discovery rather than teaching; problem-solving in the target language; the use of physical tools. The basic principle:  "Teaching must be subordinate to learning".  This principle is related to the search for rules given to the learner in the Cognitive Code Approach. Main principles: 1.Start with familiar sounds. 2.Give help only if absolutely necessary. Allow students to use   their own Knowledge of language learning. 3. Student attention to the teacher is important. 4. Errors are important and necessary for learning. 5. Transfer what students know already to new ideas. 6. Teacher takes a back seat. T...

The Audio Lingual Method

Imagen
07/02/2023 The Audio-Lingual method of teaching had its origins during World War Il when it became known as the Army Method. The armies needed to become orally proficient in the languages of their allies and enemies as quickly as possible. This was first method to be based on linguistic theory and behavioral psychology. The Audio-Lingual method emphasizes the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing. It uses dialoguetjas the main form of language presentation and drills as the main training techniques. Its basic principles are: • Separation of language skills into listening, speaking, reading and writing. • Use of dialogues as the chief means of presenting the language. • Emphasis on certain practice techniques: mimicry, memorization and pattern drills. • Discouraging the use of the mother tongue in the classroom. Based on Skinner's Behaviorism theory, it assumed that a human being can be trained using a system of reinforcement. Correct behavior receives posi...

Direct Method

Imagen
01/2023 The Direct Method by  Maximilian Berlitz .  It is also known as Natural Method.  It is a method of teaching foreign languages that uses the target language, discarding any use of the mother tongue in the classroom. Often (but not exclusively) used in foreign language teaching, it refrains from using the native language of the learners and uses only the target language.  It was established in Germany and France around 1900 and contrasts with the grammatical translation method and other traditional approaches. The basic idea of the Direct Method was that learning a second language should be more like learning a first language (lots of oral interaction, spontaneous use of the language, no translation between the first and second language, and little or no analysis of grammatical rules). Techniques  Question/answer exercise – the teacher asks questions of any type and the student answers. Dictation – the teacher chooses a grade-appropriate passage and ...
